ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates seeking admission into B.Ed. (Educational Management) Degree must satisfy the following conditions:

i. Five SSCE (or equivalent) credit passes at not more than two (2) sitting including English Language and Mathematics.

ii. A credit pass in English Language of the interim joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) at the O’Level is equivalent to the SSCE or NECO, GCE (O’Level) or SICE with credit passes in relevant subjects or any other equivalent to the SSCE/GCE O’ Level or NECO for the purpose of admission into Contact One (1) Sandwichundergraduate programmes of the University.

iii. For Direct Entry (Contact Session 2) the requirements are NCE/HND Certificate.

DURATION

The B.Ed. Sandwich Degree programmes shall normally run for a minimum of five contact sessions for students admitted through O’Level results or four contact session for students admitted through NCE/HND. However, no student shall be allowed to spend more than two extra academic sessions on this programme.

The Open University (OU) invites applications for its five fully-funded Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships for citizens of developing Commonwealth countries to study the University's Masters in Online and Distance Education (MAODE).

The Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships are for three years’ part-time distance learning, commencing in February 2019, and will cover the full cost of tuition fees but no other expenses.

This Scholarship is funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and are intended to contribute to the development needs of Commonwealth countries by providing training for skilled and qualified professionals in key development areas.

NECO Registrar Suspended by Federal Government

FG Suspends NECO Registrar, Professor Charles Uwakwe

Report has it that the Registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO), Professor Charles Uwakwe has been reportedly sacked.

According to an unconfirmed report, the suspension may be connected to an award of a N25 billion contract allegedly without the knowledge of either the Federal Ministry of Education or he Governing Board of the Council.

It was also gathered that the Registrar allegedly embarked on the recruitment of staff without the knowledge of the appropriate authorities.

Also, two other Deputy Directors were said to have been sacked.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Abubakar Gana who is the most senior Director in the Council has been directed to take over as the acting Registrar.

We have received information that following the 4-day site maintenance by the YABATECH Centre for Information and Technology Management (CITM), most registerd courses by students have been unregistered.

Consequently, Fresh and Returning students are hereby adviced to re-register their courses again.

Failure to do this will result to no result at the end of the semester.

We Have No Issues Reducing The Cost of UTME Form To Even N500 - JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB has responded to the call by the House of Reps for reduction in the cost of application forms.

Reacting to this, the Board’s Head of Media, Dr Fabian Benjamin, stated that the amount being collected for application forms from those seeking to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, has not been changed for about 10 years, stressing that the present management of the board has not added N1 to the fee.

He stated that if the Government wants the cost to be reduced, the Board will have no issue with that because since almost what ever is generated is still remitted to the Government; adding that the board under the present Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq has remmitted a large chunk of the money realised from the sale of forms to the government, above what has been the case in the past 30 years.

He however added that even if the cost of application forms is reduced to N1000 or even N500 that it will not make JAMB to compromise the quality of the examination because the quality of an examiation is not a function of money but a function of commitment, dedication, transparency and how committed the staff and management are.

Recall that the House of Reps had yesterday requested the Federal Ministry of Education to direct JAMB to cut down the cost of application forms.

The 2017/2018 Session is gradually winding down. The second semester examinations will soon commence. Students are, therefore, admonished to brace up to ensure that they come out in good grades in the examinations. All acts of examination malpractices should be avoided as the penalty for such is outright dismissal from the University.

Final year students should start working on their projects and see their supervisors for necessary guidance and supervision before the end of the session. The University WILL NOTallow students to stay on or visit the campus during the holidays. Students are, therefore, advised to take advantage of the remaining portion of the outgoing semester to tidy up and complete their projects before the commencement of the next vacation.

The University Management has observed with dismay that in spite of repeated warnings, several students still pair up in dark places at night to commit immoral acts. Students are, therefore, reminded, once again, that the University does not condone pairing up of male and female students, particularly after 7.00 pm. Students are advised to carefully study and understand the provisions in the Students' Handbook, especially Chapter Five of it, which deals elaborately with students' conduct.

The Sheriff Deputies and other agents have been empowered to arrest culprits and those caught in any act of immoral conduct and/or prohibited association will be suspended from the University with immediate effect.

The Vice-Chancellor has directed that ALL shops on the campus, including those at the hostels, must henceforth close at 7:30 pm and their operators vacate the campus immediately thereafter.

All students are barred from being seen in the vicinity of Faculty buildings and lecture rooms as well as isolated places as from 8:00 pm everyday.

Students are again warned against possession of contraband items such as hard and prohibited drugs, condoms and other sex-related items and gadgets. Any student caught in possession of such items will be summarily expelled from the University.

Students who wear unacceptable hair styles and hair-dos are advised to visit their barbers/hair-dressers immediately for necessary actions as such students will NOT be allowed into lecture rooms and examination halls forthwith. For the avoidance of doubt, students are advised to regularly visit the University website to familiarize themselves with the acceptable norms in this context.

Unscheduled checks will henceforth be conducted at specific but undisclosed locations on the campus to enforce strict compliance with the foregoing.
